Several tiimes a week i ride my Segway to downtown Danville and back. Since Thursday the 7 or 8 minute trip has become at least three times that. Everyone seems to have heard about the recall and has an instant fascination with stopping me to ask about it. Boy what a marketing coup. Apparently only two Segways have ever had the 'unintended reverse' problem arise. That means that statistically there's more chance of winning the lottery. I'm still riding mine, at the amazment of everyone, and interest in Segways has gone throught the roof. Nice move Segway. For a company that has been poor in promoting their product and not gotten the PR bounce they've needed since their original "it" campaign, i think they've pulled off a coup.
Meanwhile i'll still be riding, if you see me fall off you'll know i got my risk assesment wrong! :-)

I'd quibble with you over the probabilities, but in fact it depends on which lottery game you play. In either case, though, I think your gamble is a more interesting one. And speaking of quantifications, you probably already know this site since you know the book, but just in case:

Maybe one day they'll do the economics of being courteous and helpful....
