My wife's friend Kim Lemon is staying with us, she's here from the UK. What's different about Customer Service in the US? Our expectations for Customer Service and its delivery. Its just so much higher thinks Kim. Yesterday, when she had breakfast in Mendocino, it struck her how helpful the waiter was, how he asked what else he could get her, how he wanted everything to be right for her. Unusual? Not for us here in the US, but more than what people would expect in the UK, and certainlyi more than what they'd receive. Why are our expectations in the US so much higher and the standard so much more than most place abroad? What culturally sets the US apart so much? In a land where we complain often about poor service, (and i'm one of the complainers), we really do beat the rest of the world in many ways. But as Kim Lemon has reminded me, our expecations are so much higher. Lets keep those expectations and standards rising, lets stay leading the world in Customer Service. And lets stay restless when we get mediocre Customer Service. Even if it does beat the rest of the world, we can do better, and will. Thanks Kim!
